Since Blizzard announced the game at the BlizzCon 2019, fans of the franchise are always on the lookout for an “Overwatch 2” release date announcement. Just recently, an announcement was made earlier than expected but, surprisingly, it did not come from Blizzard.
Rather, PlayStation Brazil might have inadvertently leaked the “Overwatch 2” release date, Dexerto reported. Even Blizzard’s Jeff Kaplan was uncertain when the title would be coming out back when it was announced at the BlizzCon 2019.
“Like I mentioned, ‘Overwatch 2’ is still in development, and we have a long ways to go before this game is fully ready,” Kaplan said last November. “Just let us make it great… We don’t have a date in mind”
That’s why it’s a bit surprising for PlayStation Brazil to be so certain of the “Overwatch 2” release date. “2020 will be the year Overwatch 2 comes to PS4,” the company wrote on its Twitter account based on the platform’s translate feature.
“2020 será o ano em que Overwatch 2 chega ao PS4, e para nos prepararmos, conversamos com alguns de seus desenvolvedores, que nos deram informações quentes. Leia a entrevista,” the actual text reads, which is in Portuguese.
But if PlayStation’s tweet of a 2020 “Overwatch 2” release window is true, the title won’t likely be out soon. According to ESPN, the title won’t likely be ready before the third season of the Overwatch League, which means that it won’t be released until the fall of 2020.
Blizzard already teased that “Overwatch 2 will bring in new heroes, new maps as well as a story mode, according to PCGamer. In fact, the game’s main campaign is all about cooperative Story Missions which will need teamwork to complete.
Blizzard wants players to experiment and choose heroes based on their skills and abilities for a more effective overall team. There are also items that players can pick up along the way such as barrier shields, HP generators, and corrosive grenades.
Aside from Story Missions, “Overwatch 2” also allows players to go on Hero Missions. There are missions that are not part of the story. In this mode, heroes can be leveled up and customized to slightly modify their abilities.
There are also new “Overwatch” heroes to look forward to. One of these is called Sojourn, who is described as a critical character in the Overwatch organization.
