In a couple of months, it will be the anniversary of season 3’s premiere and the making of “Overlord” season 4 is still unknown. So when it was reported recently that the next installment has been “confirmed” by some people attached to the anime production, the news immediately spread among fans.

However, newer reports from other fans seem to claim that there was not an outright announcement of “Overlord” season 4 yet. Unfortunately, the wait for the confirmation of anime’s return continues.

‘Overlord’ season 4 renewed or canceled: What’s the latest update?

Earlier this month, publisher KSM Anime for the DACH (Germany, Austria, Switzerland) held an event that was attended by the said panel. In a tweet, the company revealed that the panelists have “announced” “Overlord” season 4. Later, a couple of reports claimed that the information was “backed” by series creator Kugane Murayama and illustrator so-bin.

A day after the reports surfaced online, a fan clarified in the series’s Fandom page that the information only came from screenwriter Yukie Sugawara, who has written scripts for all three seasons of “Overlord.” So one would think that Sugawara would know if “Overlord” season 4 is in the pipeline.

However, the same fan explained Murayama said during the same panel discussion that he has no direct knowledge about the anime’s future. The series creator reportedly added that Sugawara and the studio Madhouse are the ones who can officially comment about “Overlord” season 4. So when Sugawara took the mic to answer, the screenwriter purportedly said the fourth season is “extremely likely” but, technically, nothing was confirmed yet.

‘Overlord’ season 4 release date: Will new episodes arrive soon?

Given the fact that “Overlord” season 4 has not been confirmed yet, the anime is unlikely getting a 2019 release date. Considering the availability of light novel source materials, fans may even be looking at another year or two of waiting for new episodes to air.

However, it was announced in 2018 that even the light novel series is taking a break until 2019. However, Murayama has yet to announce the release of volume 14 with not much time left this year. This is one of the reasons why some do not expect “Overlord” season 4 to be released until 2021.
