Starz just released their “Outlander” season 4 trailer and it is chock full of scenes to excite fans. No wonder both Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe have expressed excitement for the period-drama-with-a-twist's upcoming installation.
The show's stars and producers have already talked about how “Outlander” season 4 will be more focused on Jamie and Claire Fraser looking into settling down. In the trailer, we are treated to the Frasers being welcomed by Jamie Fraser's Aunt Jocasta at River Run, the matron's sprawling North Carolina mansion.
But much the same as the stars and producers of the show have teased, dangers still lurk close, and the Frasers are still not safe especially in the new world. A mob is shown assaulting Aunt Jocasta's mansion, and a series of scenes afterward shows encounters with less-than-savory characters.
Aside from Jamie Fraser's Aunt Jocasta, played by Marie Doyle Kennedy, we are also shown a sneak peek at "Downton Abbey" veteran Ed Speleer's Stephen Bonnet, who it has been teased will play a largely negative role in the Frasers' lives.
But danger may take on a different meaning beyond the mobs and Stephen Bonnet's unsavory character for the fourth season. In the trailer, Claire Fraser discovers a human skull, which may point to another time-traveler's death.
How the death of another time traveler will play out in “Outlander” season 4 is still unknown, but it may initiate the reveal of time travelers with more knowledge about how jumping through the ages works. This may be an important plot point in the future considering that Claire Fraser's ability to time travel has been shown to require a specific set of rules to work. It is a possibility that new villains aside from Stephen Bonnet will be introduced in season 4.
The existence of time travel may also be related to the Native American contact that is teased about in the trailer. Whether the Native Americans will pose a threat or be allies to the Frasers will be revealed when “Outlander” season 4 premieres in November.
