“Once Upon a Time” Season 8 is not going to happen despite speculations going around. ABC –the show’s mother network – has already confirmed the cancelation, citing several reasons, Express reported.
“When we first heard Adam and Eddy’s pitch for ‘Once Upon a Time,’ we knew it was something incredibly special,” ABC entertainment president Channing Dungey said. “For seven years, they have captivated us with their creativity and passion while reimagining some of our most beloved Disney fairytales, creating an undeniable global hit.” Dungey added that it was bittersweet to part ways with the show and it was difficult for them not to commission a “Once Upon a Time” Season 8.
Even showrunners Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz said that they aren’t keen to produce more stories for the series. Both were quite satisfied how season 7 ended and they’re contended to leave it at that. They also added that they wanted fans to have closure and a “Once Upon a Time” Season 8 would not be in line with that idea.
The cast themselves felt special for having been part of the show for seven seasons and said they too feel that the franchise has told the story it wanted to tell. As for the possibility of a “Once Upon a Time” Season 8, Kitsis and Horowitz said that they’re open to the idea of it happening.
However, they said that they want someone else to handle it. "We feel like we told our story that has been very near and dear to our hearts for a very long time," Horowitz explained. "This was an idea we had more than 15 years ago and we feel very happy with what we did and how we did it and, should the show continue on in some form down the line, I think we'd be as big fans." So to sum it up, the possibility of a “Once Upon a Time” Season 8 seems bleak at best.
