‘Once Upon A Time’ Season 6B Spoilers: Musical Episode in the Works? Jennifer Morrison, Robert Carlyle Doubt Future on Series

‘Once Upon A Time’ season 6B may be planning a special musical episode to be aired in spring. Meanwhile, stars Jennifer Morrison and Robert Carlyle doubt their future on the series.

According to TV Line, the fairy tale television series may be gearing up for a musical episode expected to be released in spring when the show returns to ABC on March. Although a spokesperson for ABC declined to comment, rumors of a musical episode have been going around.

Co-creators Eddie Kitsis and Adam Horowitz hinted at the idea back in 2015’s Comic-Con but admitted that this method of storytelling would be a challenge to put into fruition. Kitsis said, "It would be great to do a musical episode, (but) I don't know even know where to begin."

Lead actress Jennifer Morrison welcomed the possibility of a musical outing when she revealed back in 2011 that the cast members could sing. She said, “Josh Dallas, Ginny Goodwin, me…. I don’t know if Robert Carlyle sings; he probably does. I feel like we have a lot of musically inclined people in the cast. We’ll see!”

Morrison plays main protagonist Emma Swan, the Savior and daughter of Snow White (Ginnifer Goodwin) and Prince Charming (Josh Dallas). Emma appeared in the show’s very first episode and stayed on as one of the core characters.

According to TV Guide, Morrison expressed uncertainty over the future of the series. During an interview with the podcast ‘The Drop-In,’ she revealed, "My contract ends in April on Once Upon a Time, I don't know what that means… They haven't picked up the show officially yet -- they might, they might not.”

She continued, “We are just waiting now to see if the network decides to continue with the show -- and if they do continue with the show, if they're going to rework it to be something else, or if they're going to invite people to stay. We're just in a holding pattern right now." Season 7 is yet to be renewed by ABC.

ABC Chief Channing Dungey revealed that although Kitsis and Horowitz discussed the possibilities of the new season, they may not necessarily bring the old cast back since they are considering a total change in direction for the series.

Morrison’s co-star Robert Carlyle, who plays Mr. Gold / Rumplestiltskin, echoed her doubts during an interview with Digital Spy. He admitted, "By the end of this month, I'm going to hit a crossroads and I'm going to have to make some decisions… These decisions aren't just about my wellbeing anymore, it's about my family.”

He continued, "I've been out in Vancouver, Canada [where OUAT films] for the last eight years. My children love it out there, they go to school there, they've got friends there. I really have to think about them most, more than I have to think about me… I wouldn't be surprised if I ended up still back there, but you never know."

‘Once Upon A Time’ season 6B is expected to return on March 5, 2017 on ABC with episode 11, titled "Tougher Than the Rest."
