EDISON, N.J., Jan. 30, 2018 -- Northeast Regional Council of Carpenters (NRCC) Edison Team Lead Anthony Abrantes and Local 251 Council Representative Tom Iveson were recently appointed to the Morris County Park Commission Board and the Middlesex County Board of Workforce Development, respectively.
Abrantes, a 13-year member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America (UBCJA), will serve a five-year term as a Park Commissioner for Morris County. The Morris County Park Commission Board is made up of members who are selected by the Morris County Board of Chosen Freeholders. The Morris County Park Commission is the largest county park system in the State of New Jersey.
“Being appointed as a member of the Park Commission in Morris County is a great honor and I hope to make a positive change within the county,” said Abrantes. “As a Union Carpenter, I understand the importance of being active in the community, while making the voices of our citizens heard.”
The Middlesex County Board of Workforce Development was established in 1998 and provides leadership and direction to County businesses through workforce innovation, resources and technology.
Iveson said that he looks forward to working with his fellow board members to develop leadership and jobs programs to not only grow jobs in the County, but also to ensure employees are prepared to succeed in the workforce.
“I look forward to utilizing my experience to help individuals and organizations throughout the County to find and succeed at rewarding careers,” said Iveson. “I’ve had a wonderful career as a Union carpenter and Northeast Carpenters representative and hope to utilize that experience to help develop new programs that can assist Middlesex residents in finding and succeeding both professionally and in life.”
