LOS ANGELES, July 12, 2016 -- NorthStar Moving® Company, the leading eco-luxury mover in California, announced today that their fourth annual "Let's Send Hunger Packing" summer food drive competition in partnership with Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage raised 7,132 pounds of food to feed hungry children in Los Angeles and Orange County.
"We appreciate the support we've received from NorthStar Moving over the past four years," said Los Angeles Regional Food Bank Chief Development Officer Mario Haug. "They understand that hunger never takes a vacation and that summer can be especially hard for families in Los Angeles with limited resources. Because of their generosity, we are able to help feed the 1 in 5 children in L.A. County who live in food insecure homes."
The food drive competition, hosted by NorthStar Moving, had Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage offices in LA County and Orange County compete to collect the most food donations to help feed those children in need. NorthStar Moving has tallied the collected food for each office and is very pleased to announce the 2016 winners. The "Food Donation Heroes" that collected the most food in their county are: San Marino for Los Angeles County and Mission Viejo for Orange County. In second place is Arcadia for Los Angeles County and Newport Beach for Orange County. NorthStar Moving delivered all of the food donated in Los Angeles County to the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank and all of the food donated in Orange County to Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County. NorthStar Moving will honor each of the winning offices with a $1000.00 donation and the second place offices each with a $250.00 donation to their local food bank in their name.
"We were excited to once again join forces with NorthStar Moving Company, a long time participant in the Coldwell Banker Concierge Program, to help feed hungry children throughout the region," said Teresa Howe, Regional VP Client Development Group for Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage. "The combined efforts surpassed anything we could have expected and we are ecstatic with the results!"
NorthStar Moving also awarded Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage sales associates Kay Leavens of the San Marino office; Joella Merten and Kelsey Allen of the Arcadia office; Tom Droesch and Carmen Zeller of the Mission Viejo office; and Gina Maslach of the Newport Beach office with the "Super Volunteer" award for their dedication, enthusiasm and tireless work to collect donations to feed hungry kids.
"Together we raised 5,943 meals to feed kids' hungry tummies, surpassing our donations from last year!," said NorthStar Moving Co-Founder Laura McHolm. "We are pleased to provide the food donations during the summer time when the need at the food banks is the greatest. When hungry kids lose access to daily school sponsored meals during the summer, their struggle with hunger worsens. I am so grateful for the participation of all the wonderful folks at Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage and our entire community. Without them this would not be possible. Every year, I dream this will be the last year we will have hungry children in our communities. Please remember, if you missed the opportunity to drop off a donation during our food drive, your local food bank would no doubt cherish your monetary donations. Together, we really can send Hunger Packing once and for all!"
