It has been a while since Nokia launched a high-end smartphone that could compete with other premium devices in the market. Reports suggest that the drought will end in the coming months as the company seemingly confirmed that a new flagship is slated to be announced in the coming months.
Nokia has a new flagship phone launching this year
Gizchina reports that Zhang Yucheng, Nokia Mobile Product Manager in China, confirmed in a Weibo post that a new flagship phone is in the works. The device will reportedly launch by Nov. 11.
The same report, however, notes that Nov. 11 may not be the exact date of announcement of the new Nokia flagship phone. The date, also called Double 11, is known as Singles’ Day in China. It is an unofficial holiday where people without partners are encouraged to go shopping. It is also possible that the Nokia exec was merely confirming they have a new product that would be available by Nov. 11. In that case, the rumored flagship device could be announced even before Nov. 11.
Nokia 9.3 PureView and Nokia X60 rumored specs
Based on recent reports, there are two devices rumored to launch as Nokia’s next possible flagship product. ITHome cited information from local news sources in Taiwan suggesting that the company is planning to announce an “X60” series that will feature a standard Nokia X60 and Nokia X60 Pro.
The Nokia X60 reportedly sports a curved screen, 6,000mAh battery, and a 200MP main camera. The same report also mentioned it could be the first Nokia phone running Huawei’s HarmonyOS. However, Huawei has since denied that a Nokia phone will carry its in-house operating system.
Other reports suggest that the rumored Nokia flagship phone could be the Nokia 9.3 PureView. It would serve as the long-awaited successor to the 9 PureView, which launched in early 2019. The device shipped with a 5.99-inch (2880 x 1440) OLED display, Snapdragon 845 chipset, 6GB RAM, and 128GB internal storage.
Meanwhile, the GSM Arena database lists a “Nokia 9.3 PureView” phone, but it is currently tagged as a “canceled” device. It was rumored to sport a 108MP main camera, 5,000mAh battery, and a 6.7-inch OLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate.
