Nintendo Co. set a record pace for game titles after global sales of its latest Pokemon games surpassed 10 million units in the first three days of their release.
Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet, which were released on Nov. 18 for the Nintendo Switch, surpassed the previous global record set by “Animal Crossing” after three days.
Pokemon video games broke the previous domestic sales record of 3.45 million set by "Splatoon 3" in Japan with a three-day sales total of 4.05 million units.
The Pokemon Co., a subsidiary of Nintendo, creates the Pokemon video game series.
Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet were the first titles in the series to be released at the same time in three years.
The most recent games in the Pokemon franchise are also the first open-world role-playing games.
Players are given greater freedom and flexibility to explore the virtual world while following an open-ended plot.
