NEW YORK, Aug. 01, 2017 -- Beginning today and lasting through Sept. 30, the Bob Woodruff Foundation (BWF), which creates long-lasting, positive outcomes for post-9/11 impacted veterans, service members and their families, is again joining forces with the Steven & Alexandra Cohen Foundation to raise funds to support veterans through their #Give2Veterans campaign. For each social post or follow on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram that includes the hashtag (#Give2Veterans) and the handles @CohenGive or @Stand4Heroes, the Steven & Alexandra Cohen Foundation will donate $1 to BWF, with a maximum donation of $500,000.
The #Give2Veterans campaign returns following the success of the two foundations’ 2015 #Give2Veterans campaign, which raised a total of $500,000 for programs empowering today’s veterans to find a renewed sense of purpose and have a successful transition out of uniform.
“The funds raised through #Give2Veterans will help BWF continue to provide grantees essential resources for post-9/11 veterans,” said Anne Marie Dougherty, executive director of the Bob Woodruff Foundation. “The most innovative and exciting part is that this campaign is simple to support; just by tweeting or posting, people will be making a major impact. We’re grateful for the continued support of the Steven & Alexandra Cohen Foundation, and encourage everyone to participate in this life-changing and life-affirming campaign.”
To further raise awareness of and funds for #Give2Veterans, Marine Corporal Kionte Storey, an amputee who served in Afghanistan, will be climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro from Aug. 20-26. Storey lost his lower right leg as a result of an improvised explosive device in 2010. His continued strength and achievement, in spite of physical limitations, is representative of what veterans can accomplish when properly supported.
Jake Rath, from the Cohen Foundation, will accompany Storey to demonstrate the power of working together to bridge the military/civilian divide.
“We’ve had a great experience partnering with the Bob Woodruff Foundation on this campaign in the past and look forward to working together this year once again to give back to those who have fought so hard to keep us safe,” said Alexandra Cohen, president of the Steven & Alexandra Cohen Foundation. “Men and women like Kionte embody why we need to continue doing more and more for our heroes.”
