Netflix to Offer Interactive ‘Minecraft’ Narrative Story for Children

Netflix has been expanding its library of entertainment options for some time now. It moved on from featuring only movies and TV programs made by other companies to creating original content. Now, it’s expanding into the world of interactive entertainment. The latest IP that’s coming to its library is called “Minecraft: Story Mode,” which is aimed at a younger audience.

In a recent report by Tech Radar, the publication mentioned that Netflix might be looking into providing a video game streaming service. However, later corrections clarified the matter. It turns out that while the Netflix might be offering an interactive story about a video game, it has no plans to get into gaming.

“We can confirm 'Minecraft: Story Mode' is a licensed 5-episode interactive narrative series coming to our service this fall. It's an extension of our other interactive stories we have on our service like 'Stretch Armstrong: The Breakout,' 'Puss in Book: Trapped in an Epic Tale' and 'Buddy Thunderstruck: The Maybe Pile,'” Netflix told the publication.

“We don’t have any plans to get into gaming. There’s a broad spectrum of entertainment available today. Games have become increasingly cinematic, but we view this as interactive narrative storytelling on our service."

There was also the matter of Telltale Games supposedly working on a new title based on the hit Netflix series “Stranger Things.” The movie-streaming service clarified that this particular project is being developed and published by the video game studio. The final product will not be part of its library nor will it be hosted by its service, CNET reports.

With the various sectors of the tech industry becoming increasingly intertwined, mistakes like these are all too easy to make. In fact, the thought of Netflix getting into gaming isn’t all that farfetched since it certainly has the funds for it. It just so happens that it has no plans for doing that right now. This doesn’t mean that it won’t in the future.
