NVIDIA Corporation will set up its Asian headquarters in Taipei, Taiwan, according to the Central News Agency (CNA). The tech giant plans to hire over 2,500 employees as part of the expansion, as confirmed by National Development Council Minister Liu Chin-ching.
In addition to its Taipei headquarters, NVIDIA will establish an Asian research and development (R&D) center in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. Rival AMD is also investing in the region, with plans for an R&D center in Tainan.
This development follows reports from December suggesting Taiwan as a potential location for NVIDIA’s regional hub. CEO Jensen Huang hinted at the move during the Consumer Electronics Show last week.
Taiwan plays a critical role in NVIDIA's supply chain. The company heavily relies on TSMC for chip manufacturing and Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. Ltd (TW:2317), also known as Foxconn, for component assembly. TSMC produces most of NVIDIA’s chip designs, while Foxconn contributes key components for its artificial intelligence technologies.
Demand from the AI sector has driven substantial growth for NVIDIA, TSMC, and Foxconn, with all three companies experiencing significant stock price increases over the last two years.
NVIDIA’s expansion underscores Taiwan’s growing prominence in the global semiconductor and AI industries, further solidifying its position as a technological powerhouse.
