‘Mr. Robot’ season 3 will feature a scene where Elliot reacts to Donald Trump’s win as the President of the U.S.A. An excerpt of the script with the scene was leaked by creator Sam Esmail. Esmail also admitted that season 3 will be influenced by ‘Star Wars: Return of the Jedi.’
Esmail leaked a snippet of season 3’s script on his Twitter account that featured a scene between Elliot (Rami Malek) and his psychologist Krista (Gloria Reuben). The excerpt of the script posted on We Got This Covered featured the lead protagonist’s reaction to the election of Donald Trump as the president of the United States.
The Egyptian-American screenwriter is set to direct the incoming season’s episodes. Esmail stated before the U.S. elections during a previous interview with Deadline that season 3 will draw heavily on the implications of Trump’s election, “The sentiment and the outrage and the support of Donald Trump; the groundswell by which he rose to become the Republican nominee, that sort of atmosphere is going to be used in the Mr. Robot universe and amplified by this great economic collapse which is happening like a slow car accident. What you’re seeing is the events that stoked those (Trump-like) sentiments … There will be a lot of overlap. The increased terrorism and domestic violence that has gone on, a lot of that will play into the Mr. Robot universe.”
According to Screen Crush, Esmail also suggested that it will also be influenced by ‘Star Wars: Return of the Jedi.’ He said during an interview with Screen Crush, “I’m going to keep going with this Star Wars thing. Maybe it’s subconscious; I don’t know. I’ve looked back on the second season and I’ve seen a lot of similarities with The Empire Strikes Back, in terms of Luke/Elliot going away and isolating themselves, while their sister is out there and battling the evil empire. I think this is the return of Elliot.”
He continued, “Season three, and the way I’ve been thinking about it, is sort of the return to Elliot — but not the naive Elliot we saw at the beginning of the season. It’s the Elliot we’ve seen go through this horrific experience from the first and second seasons, and with all of that in mind, that’s going to make this new Elliot come into fruition in the next season.”
‘Mr. Robot’ season 3 is expected to air on the USA Network sometime in 2017. It was commissioned for a third season last August 2016.
The American drama-thriller television series stars Rami Malek as cybersecurity engineer and hacker Elliot, who suffers from clinical depression, dissociative identity disorder, and social anxiety disorder. Elliot is recruited by a mysterious anarchist by the name of Mr. Robot and joins a team of “hacktivists” known as fsociety.
