Müller Milk & Ingredients plans to switch to packaging made from recycled materials to remove 500 tons of virgin plastic from its annual production of cream pots.
Müller has converted 75 percent of its cream volume to rPET pots, which are 100 percent recyclable and made from 82 percent recycled plastics.
Faerch, a packaging company, supplied the pots, and Müller is developing packaging solutions for the remaining 25 percent volume for 2023.
Müller's 150ml and 300ml cream pots have been rolled out, joining its fresh milk bottles, which have been 100 percent recyclable for years and contain 30 percent recycled material.
"It's clear that shoppers want great dairy products in packaging that preserves their quality, safety, and shelf life while reducing environmental impact," said Liam McNamara, joint CEO of Müller Milk & Ingredients. We are constantly looking for new ways to use significantly less virgin plastic."
The company has also scrapped colored milk caps.
