Mister Donut captivates Japan with its annual autumn release of sweet potato donuts, showcasing five exquisite variations, from classic flavors to innovative twists inspired by "yaki imo."
This year's lineup features five unique options, including returning favorites and a delightful new addition. Among the classics making a delicious comeback is the Satsuma Imo-do Mitsu Imo, boasting a soft, airy texture and enhanced with a delectable sweet potato-flavored syrup.
Also making a highly-anticipated return are the Satsuma Imo-do Daigaku Imo and Satsuma Imo-do Sweet Potato. The former is elegantly coated with a sweet syrup and garnished with a sprinkle of black sesame seeds, while the latter delights with a luscious sweet potato cream center.
Adding a touch of sophistication is the Satsuma Imo-do Mitsu Imo Brulee, a sweet potato twist on the beloved creme brulee featuring a delightful layer of caramelized sugar.
This year's theme for Mister Donut's Sweet Potato Donuts focuses on the question, "How close to a roasted sweet potato can you make a donut?" Embracing this challenge, the all-new Satusuma Imo-do Maru de Yaki Imo emerges as a standout creation.
Its oblong shape and purple glaze are reminiscent of the Japanese sweet potato's distinct appearance. At the same time, black sesame adds a subtle flavor, a staple in Japanese sweet potato preparations. Interestingly, the Satusuma Imo-do Maru de Yaki Imo is a Danish pastry infused with a delightful sweet potato paste within its dough.
Prices for these delectable treats range from 165 yen for the Mitsu Imo and Daigaku Imo to 176 yen for the Sweet Potato, 187 yen for the Imo Brulee, and 220 yen for the Maru de Yaki Imo. Mark your calendars, as these delectable donuts will be available for purchase starting on August 30, well before the peak of roasted sweet potato season in Japan.
