Microsoft attacked Apple recently for its claim that its new iPad Pro is just as good as a laptop because it now has a keyboard. The Windows giant took issue with that and created an attack ad essentially mocking the tablet. This time around, Microsoft is taking shots at the MacBook, saying how their “Surface Pro 4” is a much better choice for all-around functionality.
As Windows Central points out, Microsoft is not even bothering to be subtle anymore. Directly comparing the two units during TV and internet commercials, the characters are constantly saying that they can do things on the “Surface Pro 4” that they can’t do on their Macs. They aren’t exactly wrong, however.
Aside from showing off many of the features that the “Surface Pro” has, such as the detachable keyboard platform, the responsive touchscreen display, and the pen, the ad also has a background music that is incredibly telling of what Microsoft is trying to say. With lyrics like, "This Mac doesn't have any of that; it's less useful, like a hat for your cat," the Windows company is really sticking it to Apple now.
The ad also indicates that the Microsoft unit is more powerful than any of the current MacBooks that Apple is selling. This is a point that may actually have some substance, according to Forbes.
The MacBook lineup has been incredibly stagnant over the last few years, with the biggest changes being the smaller and lighter bodies and the updated software. In terms of features and specs, however, it can be argued that Apple seems to be sitting on its laurels.
The strongest factor in favor of the “Surface Pro 4” is the Windows 10 OS, which arguably has the highest security and the best prospects for third-party developers. It also has backwards compatibility, which makes the unit a lot more appealing. As to whether or not these are enough to convince Mac fans to switch, however, is the question.
