It’s no secret that Bing is not exactly the most popular search engine around. However, Reddit is one of the biggest and most influential online platforms on the internet. By leveraging the power of this forum site in the form of better subreddit search results on Bing, Microsoft hopes to generate more interest on the search engine.
Microsoft made the announcement during an artificial intelligence conference held in San Francisco, along with several other new features that are coming to Bing, TechCrunch reports. During the event, the tech giant said that up to one-third of all search results on desktops by U.S. users is done through Bing and that it aims to make those numbers bigger.
One of the fields that Microsoft is trying to outdo Google in with regards to AI is the kinds of search results that users get when typing in certain queries. Basically, users will get diverse viewpoints with regards to certain topics in an effort to truly provide people with actual options.
On that note, most internet surfers will likely be more interested in how Bing will integrate Reddit into its system. Much of the new features seem focused on sub-Reddits or specific Reddit communities, The Verge reports.
Basically, users on Bing will be able to find information on specific subreddits or just the communities themselves when typing their names on its search box. The search engine will basically prioritize the information coming from Reddit itself, thus making its presence more prominent.
As to how it even works, users will likely find three main ways that this integration changes how searching for Reddit information works on Bing. There’s the matter of getting a snapshot of the top threads on the subreddit. AMA questions and answers from celebrities will be displayed more prominently. Then there’s the answers sourced from AskReddit, which will be seen in Bing’s search results directly.
