Michael Schumacher’s family was clear in not making the Formula One legend’s health recovery a public matter. As it appears, this memo extends to their close friends.
Mick Schumacher’s close friend, racing driver Nicklas Nielsen, told Danish publication BT (via news.com.au) that the 2018 European F3 champion does not divulge any information about his father’s health. However, Mick reportedly does not seem sad about the current condition of his father which might mean that the older Schumacher is very well on the path of recovery.
“[Mick] just said sometimes that it is hard,” Nielsen shared. Even Michael’s younger brother, Ralf Schumacher, whom Nielsen goes karting with reportedly does not talk about his brother’s health rehabilitation as well. “It may be that Michael is on his way back and will only come out again when he is completely rehabilitated. But it’s hard to say what’s going on,” Nielsen added.
The seven-time F1 world champion met a horrible accident during a family skiing vacation in 2013. Since then, Michael Schumacher’s family has requested privacy from the fans and the media, which explains why there are only a few details known about the retired driver’s medical recovery.
However, last August, unidentified relatives who visited Schumacher’s home told Paris Match that the former Ferrari driver sometimes goes on nature sightseeing on his wheelchair. “When you put him in his wheelchair facing the magnificent panorama of the mountains overlooking the lake, Michael sometimes cries,” the sources said.
Though fans do not have any specific update about Michael Schumacher’s recovery, his wife appears positive given the current situation as she called the F1 icon a “fighter.” In a letter thanking a fan for his special gift to Michael, Corinna Schumacher said the former racing driver “will not give up.”
In 2016, the Schumacher family filed a legal complaint — and later won — against a German magazine for running a story that claimed Michael “can once again walk.” During the proceedings, Schumacher’s manager Sabine Kehm said, “The assertion that Michael could move again is not true.” The Schumacher family later won the legal battle.
