SAN JOSE, Calif. and REDWOOD CITY, Calif., July 27, 2017 -- MapR Technologies, Inc., provider of the Converged Data Platform that fully integrates analytics with operational processes in real time, and Talend (NASDAQ: TLND), a global leader in cloud and big data integration solutions, today announced they are working closely on a solution to help customers address requirements for the European Union’s (EU) General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) legislation. The combined offering from MapR and Talend enables companies to create a governed data lake capable of meeting even the most stringent data storage, inventory, protection, retention, portability, and security requirements mandated by GDPR.

Enforceable starting May 2018, GDPR applies to any organization worldwide that collects or processes personal data from EU residents. According to Gartner, by the end of 2018, over 50 percent of companies affected by the GDPR will not be in full compliance with its requirements.*
“The path toward GDPR compliance does not have to be complicated, but organizations do need to act now,” said Ciaran Dynes, senior vice president of products, Talend. “Working with MapR, we are helping customers deliver transparency through proper metadata management practices; establish a collaborative approach to data governance; and modernize their data platform to support data lake development that will ensure full compliance with GDPR.”
Data lakes are used to centralize enterprise information, including personal data that originates from a variety of sources, such as banks, social media, medical care providers, and more. The combined solution from MapR and Talend enables companies to deploy governed data lakes that address compliance challenges related to:
- Data classification and lineage
- Data capture and integration
- Data anonymization
- Self-service data curation and certification
- Data portability and accessibility
“Under GDPR, multi-national companies will need to demonstrate that personal data is being captured, shared, and managed in a controlled, lawful and fair manner,” said Anoop Dawar, vice president, product marketing, MapR Technologies. “The combined offering from MapR and Talend helps companies accelerate GDPR compliance efforts, and demonstrate that required data governance mechanisms are in place.“
The MapR Converged Data Platform brings together analytics and operations with the industry’s only enterprise-grade software solution that unifies big data and open source technologies with fast, native access to global event streaming, real-time database capabilities, and cloud scale storage. The platform provides several features to comply with GDPR including MapR Volumes, which logically groups personal data and immediately applies policies and permissions to this data; high-performance auditing to log data access; and mirroring and replication to easily control the movement of ‘portable’ data.
Talend’s data integration platform, Talend Data Fabric, is the industry’s first integration platform to natively support MapR Streams, which helps customers continuously synchronize event processing across databases as information is updated, delivering accurate insight in real-time. Talend also combines data quality, metadata management, data stewardship, data lineage, and big data integration to collect, standardize, reconcile, certify, protect, and propagate Personally identifiable information (PII) data.
