Following updates on the supposed rematch of Manny Pacquaio and Floyd Mayweather Jr. has been a roller coaster of information so far. Now, some reports seemingly indicate the highly anticipated bout will be taking place in Japan.

Manny Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather 2 venue: Rematch in Japan under a new promoter?

The latest updates suggest that the Pacquiao vs. Mayweather 2 will be taking place in the Land of the Rising Sun. If that comes to fruition, it will not be the first time the American boxing icon will fight in Japan. It can be recalled that he participated in an exhibition match against Japanese kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa in December 2018 that was organized by MMA promoter RIZIN.

Reports have it that if Pacquiao and Mayweather have their rematch in Japan, RIZIN will have to bow out of the event promotion. RIZIN president Nobuyuki Sakakibara confirmed it to SunSport and explained that since Mayweather and Pacquaio are both boxers, the rematch would have to be arranged by the Japanese Boxing Commission.

“They’re two huge names in the boxing industry and for us to bypass the JBC and put on such a big fight, even an exhibition, that just wouldn’t fly,” Sakakibara added. He also explained that they were only able to handle Mayweather’s exhibition fight last year because he was up against an MMA fighter.

Manny Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather 2 date: Is it happening in 2020?

The above-mentioned report seems to indicate that the Pacquiao and Mayweather rematch is almost a done deal that is set in Japan. However, it is important to note that teams of the boxing legends have yet to announce final details about their supposed fight.

It can be recalled that Mayweather has been adamant in fighting Pacquiao in an exhibition match only since he had retired in 2017. Pacquiao, being an active world boxer, has insisted on only fighting in an official 12-round bout. This aspect alone has yet to be hashed out by both camps per the latest reports.

Until such important details are agreed upon by Mayweather and Pacquiao, a rematch in 2020 will remain a rumor. However, boxing fans will most likely see the Philippine boxing champ face another boxer next year if the rematch talks with Mayweather would not pan out soon.
