‘Kong: Skull Island’ Film Updates: Producer Reveals Kong’s Actual Height, Describes “Dangerous” Environment; Newest Trailer Features Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson in Action

Tom Hiddleston stars in Jordan Vogt-Roberts' 'Kong: Skull Island'

‘Kong: Skull Island’ producer revealed details of Kong’s actual height in the new film directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts. He also described numerous “dangerous” environments featured in the upcoming movie. Meanwhile, the newest trailer released during the 2016 San Diego Comic-Con featured Tom Hiddleston and Brie Larson in action as the film’s main protagonists.

During an interview with Empire, producer Alex Garcia finally revealed more details on Kong’s immense size in the upcoming film. He said, “He’s his own species… He’s going to be 100 feet tall.” It was noted that the iconic ape’s height was estimated at only 25 to 50 feet in the original 1933 film directed by Merian C. Cooper and Ernest B. Schoedsack.

Garcia also talked about the new film’s island setting and environment. He said, “There are jungles, sulphur pits, bamboo forests, a variety of different environments that are both wondrous and incredibly dangerous.”

During a previous interview with Entertainment Weekly, director Jordan Vogt-Roberts teased the biggest Kong audiences will ever see in the franchise. While talking about the recently released poster featuring lead stars Tom Hiddleston and Brie Larson in a bone yard, he said, “From the size of the skull, you can tell that things on this island are much bigger than audiences are used to with traditional Kong lore… Our Kong is by far the biggest Kong that you’ve seen on screen, and that translates to a lot of different things on the island.”

The filmmaker admitted that he studied previous films carefully to be able to create a new version of the titular creature. He said, “In terms of actual size, our Kong is by far the biggest Kong… Peter Jackson’s Kong was around 25 feet. The ‘33 Kong ranged between 25 feet and 50 feet, I want to say he was 50-plus feet when he was on the Empire State Building. He varied in size dramatically! The ’70s Kong was somewhere between them.”

Vogt-Roberts’ upcoming film will take place in the 1970s. Hiddleston will portray SAS tracker Captain James Conrad while Larson will play photographer Mason Weaver. Other actors making up the new cast include Samuel L. Jackson, Corey Hawkins, Toby Kebbell, Jason Mitchell, and John Goodman.

According to Los Angeles Times, the film’s trailer debuted at the 2016 San Diego Comic Con. The dramatic new footage featured a group of explorers who find themselves on a remote and mysterious island in the Pacific. Kong was spotted at the very end.

‘Kong: Skull Island’ is an upcoming action-adventure and fantasy film scheduled to premiere on March 20, 2017. It is directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts and written by Max Borenstein, Derek Connolly, John Gatins, and Dan Gilroy. It is produced under Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros.
