‘Kong: Skull Island’ director Jordan Vogt-Roberts teased the biggest Kong in the history of the franchise. He said that the titular character got a size upgrade for the newest remake. Meanwhile, actor John Goodman expressed his excitement over the new project and working with talented cast mates.
According to Sciencefiction.com, Vogt-Roberts teased that audiences will be treated with the biggest Kong in the history of the franchise during an extended preview of the upcoming film at CineEurope. He said, “This is going to be the biggest Kong there’s ever been. Not 10 foot or 30 foot, but a 100-foot ape.”
The titular gigantic primate will be getting a size upgrade – up from the 50-foot Kong in 1933’s classic film of the same name directed by Merian C. Cooper and Ernest B. Schoedsack. According to Flickering Myth, the new and improved Kong will definitely be more massive in height compared to Peter Jackson’s scaled-down 25-foot tall Kong in the 2005 remake.
The upcoming fantasy-adventure film is part of Legendary Pictures’ planned shared creature universe. It is the latest reboot of the monster franchise of the same name and will serve as the second installment in the Godzilla-Kong film series.
The titular Kong will be appearing in the 2020 crossover film ‘Godzilla vs. Kong’, where he will be battling off with another iconic giant monster. Although Legendary continues to maintain its home under Universal Pictures, it will collaborate with Warner Bros. for the shared creature franchise.
Vogt-Roberts will be directing an ensemble cast that includes Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson, John C. Reilly, Thomas Mann, Toby Kebbell, Corey Hawkins, Samuel L. Jackson, Jason Mitchell, and John Goodman.
During an interview with Yahoo! Movies, Goodman expressed his excitement over working with a great group of actors. He said, “…it was swell. The people that you’ve never heard about were great, too. Just all good actors. It was a lot of fun.” He added, “It’s nice to be a part of the franchise. That movie [the 1933 King Kong] still knocks me out. It’s such a lot of fun.”
Goodman also admitted that the process of working with a green screen for special effects was an enjoyable experience. He said, “After a couple of times, you warm into it. And then it’s just like back when I was a teenager, doing plays in church basements. You use your imagination for everything.”
The 64-year old Golden Globe awardee is set to play Randa, a government official who leads the expedition in Kong’s home. It is unclear whether Randa will be a hero or a villain in the film.
‘Kong: Skull Island’ is an upcoming action-adventure and fantasy film scheduled to be released on March 10, 2017. It is produced under Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros. Jon Jashni, Mary Parent and Thomas Tull serve as producers while Alex Garcia and Eric McLeod are executive producing.
The preceding remake of the same name produced and directed by Peter Jackson was the fourth highest-grossing film in Universal Pictures’ history. It generated $550 million worldwide against a production budget of $207 million.
