It will not be long before the third season of BBC crime thriller Killing Eve premieres and fans are excited at what this new season will bring. With Emerald Fennell having assumed the role of showrunner during season two, she reveals a few details about the upcoming season.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Fennell talked about the possibility of finally having the Eve (Sandra Oh) and Villanelle (Jodie Comer) team-up that many are anticipating. She explained that it is also something that she and the other writers in the room want to do, to have Eve and Villanelle pull what she compares to as a “Bonnie and Clyde” kind of rampage. However, what throws Eve off the idea is that it really is what is going on, that the two of them are in a killing spree.
“Haven’t we all craved something, desired something, and the anticipation is the thing. The thing itself is too frightening. Or too decadent or too weird,” says Fennell. She goes on to explain that the disappointment Villanelle feels is because she and Eve are the same. “Eve deep down probably believes that too, but one of them is a psychopath and one of them isn’t.”
As to what else fans can expect from the third season, Fennell compared the story that continued from the second season after the season one finale. Season two saw Eve stab and kill perhaps the most violent psychopath. She then said “What Killing Eve always does and what it will do for season three is it will say ‘what would we do?’” hinting that the third season will likely explore how Eve feels about her actions towards the events of season two. Knowing that she has never killed anyone, Fennell also teases how interesting and dark it will get for Eve moving forward.
Other than that, there is not much else that is known about the storylines for third season, except for a new showrunner, Suzanne Heathcote, who also served as a writer for the third season of Fear the Walking Dead. Oh, Comer, and Fiona Shaw will be returning. Gemma Whalen, Pedja Bjelac, Camille Cottin, Turlough Convery, Steve Pemberton, Evgenia Dodina, Raj Bajaj, Danny Sapani, and Dame Harriet Walter were all announced to be joining the upcoming season.
As early as now, BBC has also renewed Killing Eve for a fourth season. The teaser trailer of season three is not out yet, but it might come out sometime in March.
