As NBA superstars are now assigned to their respective teams, there’s not much news surrounding the league at the moment. But basketball fans were treated to a photo on Tuesday night that lit a fire on social media. The image features three of the best players in the NBA, with one of them being Kawhi Leonard, CBS Sports reported.
The rest of the crew were Kevin Durant of the Golden State Warriors, and Lebron James of the Los Angeles Lakers, who were working out at UCLA. The others were simply close acquaintances and assistant coaches. Aside from the ridiculous talent pool that the picture displayed, fans took notice of how big Kawhi Leonard’s hands are.
While it’s no secret that the forward indeed has some enormous mitts, fans were still quite taken aback at the sheer size of them. The photo shows Kawhi Leonard holding a basketball, which can’t be noticed at first because his hands envelop almost the entirety of it.
To put into perspective, Kawhi Leonard’s hands measure 11.25 inches from thumb to pinky when they're splayed out completely. That is 52 percent bigger compared to the hands of an average person. What’s more, the diameter size of a basketball is 9.39 inches.
It’s no wonder that Kawhi Leonard isn’t having an issue in palming the ball with one hand during games. It’s also quite apt that the league has nicknamed the forward as “The Claw,” a moniker that Kawhi himself said he’s fond of.
But putting Kawhi Leonard hands aside, having the forward do some training session with Lebron James and Kevin Durant raised a lot of speculations about the possibility of the three of them playing together. Kawhi and Durant are set to become free agents next season, and while it’s unlikely they’re going to sign with the same team, just the thought of the trio balling together in one roster is enough to make fans go on a frenzy.
However, speculations that Kawhi Leonard might be joining Lebron James in the Lakers once he becomes a free agent are still on the table. Kawhi has already expressed his desire to play in Los Angeles in the past but didn’t exactly dismiss the idea of committing to his current team in the long term as the forward doesn’t talk all that much.
