When the news of Hurricane Harvey’s devastation began to spread back in late August, Karl Strauss Brewing Company team members took action in efforts to help the hurricane victims. Using the company’s rewards and recognition platform, they raised funds and made a donation to Feeding San Diego in support of their Hunger-Relief for Hurricane Harvey campaign.

Karl Strauss supports charitable organizations in many ways. They’ve brewed collaboration beers to raise awareness for various causes, regularly partner with environmental groups to hold company-wide beach cleanups, and work with local educational institutions to offer scholarship programs. But this campaign took a particularly unique approach, as it began with individual-based donations led by team members within the organization.
“I knew that there had to be some resource out there to help make a bigger impact than just a personal donation. Almost instantly, I thought of ‘Beer It Forward,’ our company’s rewards & recognition program,” says Gina Moore, Brewpub Field Trainer, Karl Strauss Brewing Company.
Moore came up with the idea to offer team members an opportunity to give back using this platform, and company leaders supported this initiative and took the extra step by matching all donations.
“There was no doubt in my mind that the company would come together and support a greater cause- a true testament to our core value of caring for each other, the community, and the environment,” continues Moore.
After a 3 week period, Karl Strauss made a donation to the San Diego chapter of Feeding America. Thanks to the overwhelming support by the local community, Feeding San Diego raised over $12,500 to support Feeding America’s relief efforts in Texas during their fundraising campaign.
