'John Wick 5' Release Date, Cast and Spoilers: Everything We Know So Far

“John Wick 5” has yet to be confirmed and avid followers of the film series could not help but get excited about what could be in store for them in the imminent fifth installment. In recent years, the “John Wick” franchise has become one of the most profitable and well-liked action series. In large part because of Keanu Reeves' dedicated acting as well as the emphasis on practical action and stunts.

While fans are happy to see Ana De Armas and others enter the John Wick universe, many are still hoping to see Keanu Reeves return as the main character. While there isn't much information about “John Wick 5,” here's what we do know so far about the film and what fans can expect from the next main installment in the action-packed franchise.

‘John Wick 5’ Release Date

Unfortunately, fans will have to wait at least a few more years before seeing “John Wick 5” in theaters. After all, the Ana de Armas-led spin-off “Ballerina,” which will take place between Chapters 3 and 4, is slated to be released on June 7, 2024.

Given this, it's reasonable to expect “John Wick 5” to be released no earlier than 2025, per Dexerto. We will, however, keep you updated if any more release date timelines are announced.

While “John Wick 5” appeared to be confirmed at first, director Chad Stahelski is now doubtful. “I honestly don’t know. Lionsgate is keen on doing more John Wick stuff, understandably. It’s not a bad thing for a director to have a property that they want to make more of. I don’t have a take right now. But I could wake up tomorrow and have a cool idea that I’d pitch to Keanu, or he would pitch to me, and it might hit that chord of, ‘Oh my God, we got to do this right now,'” Cha stated in a new interview with Empire Magazine.

“Now we’ve done the four, and completed the circle, so to speak, I think it’s pretty good closure for the series. And then there’s the competitor, or the real director in me who goes, ‘F*ck it, let’s just see if we can do it.’ It’s very appealing. I just don’t have the ‘why’ yet. But that doesn’t mean we should stop looking,” he continued of the rumored “John Wick 5” movie.

Chad Stahelski admitted to Inverse in October 2023 that he is no longer fully opposed to the notion. “I have notebooks and notebooks of sh** behind me, John Wicks 5, 6, 7, 8, 9. We have ideas for days. We just don’t have the story locked. I have no interest in doing the cash grab of bringing John Wick back for something. Is he a character I like? Of course. And if I did a couple of John Wick movies, great. Keanu would do one again in a second if we had a good story. We leave that open-ended. I know that the studio would love us to say we have another one,” he told the publication.

While fans may be ecstatic to learn that “John Wick 5” is perhaps in the works, this news may also cause some misunderstanding. After all, the conclusion of “John Wick 4” appeared to indicate that the titular hero had finally met his end.

Fans even saw John Wick's tomb in “John Wick 4” finale. However, it's likely that “John Wick 5” would explore the idea of Baba Yaga faking his own death, which wouldn't be entirely out of character for the franchise.

Given this, Keanu Reeves is expected to return for “John Wick 5.” In addition, Ian McShane and Laurence Fishburne are projected to reprise their roles as Continental owner Winston and the Bowery King, respectively. However, at the time of writing, all of this is just hearsay and supposition.

‘John Wick 5’ Spoilers

As previously said, the ending of “John Wick 4” appears to indicate that the character has finally met his end. That's not to say he can't return for “John Wick 5” and find more people to beat up and horses to gallop through streets and cities. Director Chad Stahelski, on the other hand, has some ideas for what he wants to see in the next installment.

“I could wake up tomorrow and have a cool idea that I’d pitch to Keanu [Reeves], or he would pitch to me, and it might hit that chord of, ‘Oh my God, we got to do this right now.’ I have scenes, I have action sequences in my head that we haven’t used yet that I’d love to do. If we do come back, we can’t just do the same thing. I gotta do my homework. I gotta get better,” he told Empire.

Producer Basil Iwanyk also shared what fans can expect should “John Wick 5” be given the green light. “I do feel like it will be a completely other book. If these movies were four chapters, you kind of blame it on the metaphor. The next John Wick will be another book. It won’t be like six months later from John Wick 4,” he told Screen Rant.
