Former vice president Joe Biden is gaining a lead amongst most of the Democratic presidential candidates in the primaries as of late. During his speech for Super Tuesday, Biden was interrupted by two protesters, but his wife Jill Biden and senior adviser Symone Sanders stepped in to protect him.
The Guardian reports that Biden was in the midst of making his speech for Super Tuesday in front of his supporters in Los Angeles when two protesters suddenly showed up on the stage. The protesters were chanting “Let Dairy Die!” and it was not the first time anti-dairy protesters have interrupted political events in the area. The protesters in question were from the animal rights group Direct Action Everywhere or DAE. However, the situation was quickly taken care of courtesy of former second lady Jill Biden and her husband’s senior adviser Symone Sanders.
While security was quick in getting rid of the first protester, the second one emerged, and Jill blocked the protester from getting to her husband. Sanders came in shortly after as well and dragged the protester off the stage, assisted by another staff member. Although Sanders did not directly mention the incident on social media, she hinted that she suffered a very minor injury. “I broke a nail. #SuperTuesday” tweeted Biden’s senior adviser.
The moment went viral on social media as clips and official photos from the scene circulated the internet, with many commenters immediately praising Jill and Sanders for their efforts in fending off the protesters. One commenter shared a video of the incident with the caption “Jill Biden for VP” while Amy Siskind tweeted, “If any NFL teams are scouting for a right guard, Jill Biden is available.”
Naturally, many commenters immediately drew comparisons between Jill Biden and First Lady Melania Trump, especially speculating what the latter would do in a similar situation. Many expressed their doubts that the First Lady would do the same for her husband Donald Trump should that kind of situation arise. One commenter said, “Now this shows Jill Biden is a down chick. Don’t step to her man, she will throw hands if need be,” and praised their marriage. Another commenter tweeted that Jill Biden is not someone to be messed with.
