“Jane the Virgin” season 5 will pick up from a finale that definitely opened up more questions than the answers it provided. Michael (Brett Dier) is back quite literally from the dead. Unfortunately, fans will have to wait until the new episodes arrive next year to learn what happened during those years that he was presumed dead.
Years after Michael’s sudden death, Jane (Gina Rodriguez) finally moved on and was hoping to get married to Rafael (Justin Baldoni) when her not-dead husband returned. Fan theories immediately spread suggesting several possibilities about this major plot twist to be explored in “Jane the Virgin” season 5.
Some of the most talked about theories for “Jane the Virgin” season 5 suggest that Michael’s fake death was orchestrated by Rose (Bridget Regan). After all, Rose’s meeting with Rafael somehow led to the latter telling Jane about Michael’s real status. Other reports also think Michael’s disappearance is related to his work as a deep undercover agent.
Another “Jane the Virgin” season 5 theory is that Michael has an identical twin. But showrunner Jennie Urman has already debunked this in a previous interview. “It’s not a surprise twin, that I can tell you,” Urman told TVLine.
In the same interview, Urman also confirmed that “Jane the Virgin” season 5 will be straightforward in tackling Michael’s surprise comeback. Considering that this is the show’s final installment, that is not surprising. And if there is one theory Urman is more positive about, it is the chance that Rose’s face-altering ruse could be in play.
“Rose has amazing face-swapping capabilities, as we’ve established. That’s certainly going to be one of the questions that need to be asked and answered, especially when we continue to play out that scene,” the showrunner teased about “Jane the Virgin” season 5.
Meanwhile, “Jane the Virgin” season 5 will return on a new schedule every Wednesday night. Urman previously hinted at a January 2019 air date. However, an official announcement for the premiere has not been made leading some fans to believe the show’s return might not happen until March 2019.
