Hyundai Motor Co. sold 8,423 units of Porter in South Korea last month, making the truck its best-selling model at home.
Meanwhile, its sister company Kia Corp. sold 6,402 units of Bongo, also ranking as the top model in terms of unit sales.
The two commercial vehicles also took the top two rankings in the January to April period, with 26,596 and 21,760 units sold, respectively.
Commercial vehicles have surpassed passenger automobiles in popularity, while sales of the latter have varied due to delivery delays caused by the global semiconductor shortage.
Another element driving the increase in commercial vehicle sales is the growing popularity of electric cars like the Porter Electric and Bongo III, thanks to the government's policy encouraging the use of environmentally friendly vehicles like EVs.
