‘House of Cards’ season 5 is set to feature the return of Kevin Spacey as President Francis “Frank” Underwood, the President of the United States. Robin Wright will also be reprising her role as President Underwood’s wife and democratic vice presidential nominee Claire Underwood.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Spacey appeared on ‘Late Night with Seth Meyers’ to talk about the upcoming season and President Underwood and his wife as running mates. He said, "What's interesting is that there are people who watch the show and even that, as an example, last year and thought, 'Oh that's crazy. That could never happen.' And then suddenly 18 months later it's like, 'Oh, wait a second. That actually could happen.' Or it is happening."
It was revealed that the fifth season will resonate well with the current status of the country under the administration of President Donald Trump. Spacey added, "I think that we're scarier than we've ever been before."
According to Variety, Wright also commented that she believes the real-life POTUS stole their ideas for season 6. She said during the Variety panel at the Cannes Film Festival, "I don't know what we're going to do, seriously."
She expressed dismay at the scandals surrounding the current political climate in the United States and also revealed that the series’ producers already know how the series would end but refused to give out any more details. Wright’s icy character is expected to continue being a key player in the series.
‘House of Cards’ season 5 is scheduled to air on May 30, 2017 on Netflix. Its first official trailer was released back in May 1. It was previously announced that creator Beau Willimon will be stepping down as showrunner, with Melissa James Gibson and Frank Pugliese serving as co-showrunners for the upcoming season.
The political-drama web television series is an adaptation of BBC’s mini-series of the same name and based on the novel authored by Michael Dobbs.
