‘Hotel Transylvania 3’ will feature the return of Genndy Tartakovsky as the film’s director. Tartakovsky helmed the first two films in the cinematic series and is well-known for his work on Cartoon Network’s ‘Dexter’s Laboratory’ and ‘Samurai Jack’ as well as ‘Star Wars: Clone Wars’. The third film is scheduled to premiere on September 2018.
According to Deadline, Sony Pictures Animation rolled out its film slate for 2017 and 2018 including a scheduled release for the much-anticipated third installment in the ‘Hotel Transylvania’ franchise. ‘Hotel Transylvania 3’ is scheduled to premiere on September 21, 2018. Tartakovsky is confirmed to return as director.
Tartakovsky said, “I thought I was done exploring the world of HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA after the first two films, but while I was away from the franchise finishing my TV show SAMURAI JACK, an idea sparked that I got really excited about and made it irresistible to return and helm myself this third adventure.”
The first film in the franchise was released in 2012 and earned mixed reviews from critics. Despite this, it gained mainstream success and grossed $358.36 million worldwide on a budget of $85 million, according to Box Office Mojo. The sequel released on 2015 achieved similar success, earning $473.22 million worldwide on an $80 million production budget.
Other planned films under Sony include ‘Emojomovie: Express Yourself’, ‘The Star’, an animated Spider-Man feature, and fully-animated Smurfs movie. The announcement also included planned television series ‘Ghostbusters: Ecto Force’ and others based on ‘Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs’ and ‘Hotel Transylvania’.
President of Sony Pictures Animation Kristine Belson said, “We are meaningfully stepping up our level of production, while creating an environment that fosters the best talent… Our goal is to enlarge our presence in the animation landscape with a uniquely diverse slate, and our strategy to get there is to let artists drive the movies creatively.”
Adam Sandler, Selena Gomez, and Andy Samberg will be returning to reprise their roles as Count Dracula, Mavis, and Jonathan, respectively. Michelle Murdocca is back as producer and Michael McCullers has come on board to write the screenplay.
‘Hotel Transylvania 3’ is an upcoming animated comedy film intended as the sequel to the 2015 film ‘Hotel Transylvania 2’. It is produced by Sony Pictures Animation.
