“His Dark Materials” Season 2 is expected to gain a lot of following upon its release. Series star Lin-Manuel Miranda are among those that are convinced that this is going to be the case. He’ll be playing Lee Scoresby, a Texan aeronaut who becomes one of Lyra’s (Dafne Keen) closest allies.
The first installment has already wrapped up production and “His Dark Materials” Season 2 is scheduled to start filming this summer in Wales, KFTV reported. BBC and HBO ordered the second entry even before the first is released as they too feel confident about the positive reception that the fantasy drama will receive.
Indeed, BBC director general Tony Hall said that they’ve allocated a lot of budget for each episode and called the entire endeavor as “ambitious.” While ordering “His Dark Materials” Season 2 before the first installment receives its rating may be a risky move, it does have precedence.
Amazon’s “Jack Ryan” was treated the same way and it paid off judging by the positive reviews that have been published across the web. As for what “His Dark Materials” Season 2 will cover, Miranda said that it will tell the story of the trilogy’s second book, “The Subtle Knife,” EveningExpress reported.
One of the most interesting things that the second book brings on the table is the introduction of Spectres, a malevolent species that feeds on a person’s soul. Author Philip Pullman previously said that Spectres is a representation of depression and self-hatred that all people experience throughout their lifetime. As such, audiences should expect some dark moments in “His Dark Materials” Season 2.
This is especially true since Will – Lyra’s closest companion – is the wielder of the Subtle Knife, the very blade that is responsible for creating the Spectres. As for when fans can expect “His Dark Materials” Season 2 to air, there’s no announcement from producers just yet. But given that Miranda said that the first entry could drop sometime at the end of 2019, the second installment could see be treated similarly in 2020.
