'Hellbound' Season 2 Release Date, Cast and Spoilers: Everything We Know so Far

Here is everything we know so far about the upcoming "Hellbound" Season 2.

“Hellbound” Season 2 is now under production, according to Netflix. Following the success of “Squid Game” in 2021, the American streaming behemoth has secured another K-drama hit with “Hellbound,” a dark fantasy drama series. The show outperformed other popular releases, like “League of Legends,” “Arcane and Tiger King Season 2,” to become Netflix's most-watched show the week it debuted.

For those who are unaware, “Hellbound” is based on show director Yeon Sang Ho's own webtoon series of the same name, and it is set in a world where apparitions appear before individuals accused of a crime, announcing "decrees" when they would be doomed to hell. Faced with this discovery, two organizations—the cult-like New Truth Society led by Jung Jinsu and the militia-like Arrowhead group—join forces to combat it.

In 2021, the series was one of the most popular K-Dramas on Netflix, trailing only the global blockbuster “Squid Game.” The program has earned widespread praise, with a 97% RottenTomatoes rating and other awards. While fans wait for additional information, here is all we know thus far about “Hellbound” Season 2.

‘Hellbound’ Season 2 Release Date

No renewal has been indicated since “Hellbound” launched on Netflix more than 11 months ago. Initially sure that the series will not return for a second season, viewers were surprised to hear during the Netflix TUDUM event that “Hellbound” Season 2 is in the works, per Netflix Life.

According to Netflix's K-Content account, filming for “Hellbound” Season 2 began in early August 2023. As fans may have observed from the casting changes, this has resulted in significant delays, which is certainly the major reason for the extended wait for production to begin.

Furthermore, the series' director and creator, Yeon Sang Oh, has been working on a number of projects for Netflix in the previous year, including a “Parasyte” adaptation and a new zombie horror series. “Hellbound” Season 1 production began on September 17, 2020, and finished on January 18, 2021. So, it took a little more than fourteen months from the start of filming to the Netflix release date.

If we use fourteen months as a rough estimate, “Hellbound” Season 2 won't be available on Netflix for a long time. The upcoming new episode is expected to be released between late 2024 and early 2025, according to our current prediction.

‘Hellbound’ Season 2 Cast

In March 2023, it was rumored that main actor Yoo Ah In, who is reportedly under investigation by South Korean authorities for illegal drug usage, will be fired from “Hellbound” Season 2. A Netflix representative subsequently confirmed to NME that the filmmakers had opted to replace Yoo as Jung Jinsu with Kim Sung Cheol, who had previously worked on “Arthdal Chronicles,” “Hospital Playlist,” and “Vincenzo.”

In the same month, Netflix confirmed that “Hellbound” Season 2 will include Kim Hyun Joo, Kim Shin Rok, Lee Dong Hee, Yang Ik Joon, and Lee Re. Yang Dong Geun of “Cheer Up,” Im Sung Jae of “Extraordinary Attorney Woo,” Jo Dong In of “Bad and Crazy,” and Moon Geun of "Young of “Catch the Ghost," have all been cast in recurring or guest roles.

‘Hellbound’ Season 2 Plot

Prior to the confirmation of “Hellbound” Season 2, a startling discovery that would forever change the world occurred in the last moments of Season 1 when Park Jung Ja's ashes and remains merged together and revived the lady. The New Truth notion was broken when multiple eyewitnesses saw what transpired between Song So Hyun's baby, who survived despite being delivered a decree, and his parents, who sacrificed everything to save their newborn son.

As victims of the decrees, such as Park Jung Ja, begin to resurrect, more questions will be raised regarding the New Truth. However, if this implies that former New Truth chairman Jung Jin Soo would be revived, supporters question if he will utilize his resurrected status to spread a new gospel in “Hellbound” Season 2.

With the New Truth and Arrowhead persuading the masses that all persons who received decrees are sinners, sinners being raised from hell itself will very surely send society into a spiral as the world struggles to understand "God's" operations. In other words, “Hellbound” Season 2 might revolve around the surprising reappearance of people doomed to hell, starting with Jeong Ja.

Because Kim Sung-cheol has been cast for the role, the main character, Jinsu, is likely to return from the dead in “Hellbound” Season 2. Toughie escaped a decree, and his parents, Young Jae and So Hyun, died in his place. This development raises questions about what the decrees truly mean and the consequences of New Truth's worldview being shattered.
