‘Hawaii Five-O’ season 7’s episode 13, titled "Ua ho'i ka 'opua i Awalua” (The Clouds Always Return to Alawua), is set to feature Max as he prepares to leave Hawaii and his teammates at Five-O. Meanwhile, the team will investigate a murder during a convention.
The synopsis for episode 13 posted on TV.com reads, “As Max (Masi Oka) prepares to say goodbye to his Five-0 family, they must investigate a murder during a police convention on the island.”
It seems that the incoming episode will be the last one for Oka’s major character Dr. Max Bergman. Oka has been a regular on the CBS production since season 2 but his character already debuted in season 1’s episode 19, titled “Ne Me'e Laua na Paio” (Heroes and Villains).
Max is a doctor and designated Chief Medical Examiner for both the Honolulu Police Department and the Hawaii Five-O Task Force. He uses his medical expertise to help Lieutenant Commander Steve McGarrett (Alex O’Loughlin) and Detective Sergeant Danny Williams (Scott Caan) investigate crimes.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Max will be moving to Africa with wife Sabrina (Rumer Willis). Oka revealed his reasons for departing the series for good saying, “I just thought the character went through a major journey. He got married, now he’s going off to Africa, so I think character-wise I felt like Max had done too much of everything he can do.”
He continued, “And we’ve been so blessed to work for seven years on a great show, but a lot of my business has been in Los Angeles and Japan and it’s been increasingly difficult to really commute to Hawaii. I’m probably the only one who really commutes to Hawaii, maybe 18 times a year round trip.”
Oka added, “It got to the point where the producers were very gracious enough to — like we talked about it and we thought Max was entering his journey and they allowed me, kind of like for my health as well, to be able to take a reprieve from being on the show.”
‘Hawaii Five-O’ season 7’s episode 13, titled "Ua ho'i ka 'opua i Awalua” (The Clouds Always Return to Alawua), is scheduled to air on CBS on January 13, 2017. It was directed by Jim Jost and written by Cyrus Nowrasteh. It will be followed by episode 14, titled "Ka laina ma ke one” / "Line in the Sand."
