While Snapchat is undoubtedly the most popular social media app among younger users these days with its revolutionary features that were promptly copied by others, it did have a few missing features. These included the ability to video chat with friends as a group or to tag certain users with every post on Stories. Now, both of these things are possible.
As The Verge notes, the new feature for tagging friends with posts on Stories called Mentions was rumored since last month. As with most cases in tagging or mentioning users on social media, preceding the names with an @ will bring out the options for the friends that can be tagged. Once the user has been added, they will be able to look at the post more closely and keep track of it.
On that note, since these posts will only last about 24 hours, having the ability to actually see them before they disappear will definitely come in handy for a lot of users. After all, being able to keep track of what friends are doing on Snapchat is part of the reason why it’s so much fun for younger demographics.
Snap Inc., the company running Snapchat seems particularly confident that the feature will be popular among its biggest influencers, which are basically social media celebrities or even actual celebrities. This is because the tag or mention feature can also include brands or corporations that they are affiliated with.
As for the video call feature, up to 16 people will be able to speak to each other simultaneously with video thanks to the new feature, Business Insider notes. Without the video, that number can go up to 32. Both of these new features have the potential to change the way users behave on Snapchat going forward, which is what social media is all about anyway.
