‘Gotham’ season 3’s episode 9, entitled “the Executioner”, will find Gordon suspecting Barnes as a murderer. He eventually confronts the chief and the two end up drawing guns against each other.
The synopsis for “The Executioner” posted on Comic Book Movie stated, “Gordon (Ben McKenzie) and Bullock (Donal Logue) become suspicious of Barnes (Michael Chiklis), and comb through evidence of the murder at Lee (Morena Baccarin) and Mario's (James Carpinello) engagement party.
Nygma (Cory Michael Smith) goes to Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor) when he hasn't heard from Isabella (guest star Chelsea Spack). Meanwhile, Ivy (Maggie Geha) reveals her identity to Selina (Camren Bicondova) and Bruce (David Mazouz), but quickly leads them to trouble.”
In the preceding episode, entitled “Blood Rush”, Barnes loses control of his sanity since a drop of Alice Tetch’s blood fell into his eye. According to the recap on Comicbook.com, the episode opens with Barnes getting pissed after following a suspicious man, who was dissolving a chopped up body in acid. When the man says that he’s just carrying out orders from a man called “Toad”, Barnes kills him anyway.
The captain of the GCPD then visits Mad Hatter (Benedict Samuel) at Arkham as he is ridden with guilt and desperation. The Mad Hatter is delighted that his dead sister is inside Barnes somehow and strikes a deal saying that if Barnes reveals what arouses his inner darkness, he would help save him. When Barnes tells him he is enraged by criminals, Mad Hatter tells him to give in.
Meanwhile, Gordon returns to the Gotham City Police Department. He and Bullock then find a grisly murder scene at the warehouse –Toad’s victim and the “clean-up” guy that Barnes has murdered. Naturally, they don’t suspect Barnes.
Barnes, on the other hand, begins to investigate Toad. Along the way, he discovers that Dr. Simon is behind the deviant act of slicing off people’s faces to send them to other people. Barnes is then haunted by his rage again and eventually kills Simon in Lee and Mario’s engagement party. But when Gordon finds Simon dying atop a car, Simon manages to whisper “Barnes.”
The upcoming episode’s title may be a nod to Barnes’ new name for himself. Since the captain is still affected by Alice’s blood, he may continue his murderous rampage around the city, acting as an “Executioner” to “clean up” Gotham.
In the promo for episode 9, Gordon reveals his suspicions about Barnes. “Something’s been off about him recently,” says Gordon. In another scene, Barnes tells Gordon, “The city’s at a crossroads, Gordon. Question is, will good men fight for it?”
By the end of the promo, Gordon and Barnes face off against each other with guns. Barnes asks him where his loyalty lies but it seems that Gordon may be forced to take out his now villainous superior.
Meanwhile, a grown-up Ivy Pepper seeks help from her old friend Selina as well as Bruce after she finds herself in trouble. The latest man she attempted to seduce winds up dead, with an arrow shot through his eye.
‘Gotham’ season 3’s episode 9, entitled “the Executioner”, is scheduled to premiere on Fox on November 14, 2016.
