Sony’s Santa Monica Studio has finally announced an exact release date for “God of War: Ragnarok.” Fans will also be able to pre-order the game, including Collector’s Edition, starting next week.
‘God of War: Ragnarok’ release date
Many fans got excited over the last week after rumors circulated that Santa Monica Studio was gearing up to make an announcement about “God of War: Ragnarok.” When the report did not pan out, some players took it to the extreme and ended up harassing some of the developers for the lack of updates about the game’s launch.
The incident even led to Santa Monica Studio releasing a statement asking fans to be patient and to refrain from conducting toxic behavior. “Our fans inspire us, and we understand the passion and desire for more information,” the developer said last week. “But that passion should not be toxic nor come at the expense of any human being’s dignity.”
It turns out that the announcement of the “God of War: Ragnarok” release date was just a few days later than anticipated. Santa Monica Studio officially revealed on Thursday that the game would launch on Wednesday, Nov. 9.

The developers also released a new CG trailer titled “Father and Son.” While it does not contain a gameplay preview, the new teaser is a good reminder that “God of War: Ragnarok” will likely feature more action sequences where Kratos and Atreus -- the game’s father and son protagonists -- team up against their enemies.
‘God of War: Ragnarok’ pre-order details
Along with the release date, the Sony-owned studio also confirmed that “God of War: Ragnarok” will have special editions that will come with the base game and some collectible items. Santa Monica Studio also unveiled an unboxing video of the game’s upcoming Collector’s Edition and Jötnar Edition.
Both editions will be in a physical box that looks like the Knowledge Keeper’s Shrine. Aside from the digital exclusives, the “God of War: Ragnarok” Collector’s and Jötnar Editions will include physical items, including a printed voucher code for the game, a steelbook display case without a disc, a 2-inch Vanir Twins carvings, and a 16-inch Mjölnir replica.
The “God of War: Ragnarok” Collector’s Edition has a Dwarven Dice Set, while the Jötnar Edition has a Brok’s Dice Set. The latter has several exclusive items, such as a Draupnir ring and a Yggdrasil cloth map. Sony will also offer a Digital Deluxe Edition, and all these options will be available to pre-order starting Friday, July 15.
