When “Gilmore Girls” A Year In The Life” ended with Rory’s (Alexis Bledel) revelation about her unplanned pregnancy to her mom Lorelai (Lauren Graham), fans were naturally left hanging to know more about this story development rather than being satisfied with the cult TV classic’s revival on Netflix.
Earlier, Grazia reported that Netflix's chief content officer Ted Sarandos confirmed that the streaming service is currently in “preliminary talks” with creators Amy Sherman-Palladino and husband Dan Palladino about a second installment.
So when Graham and Bledel were asked if they are game with doing the second Netflix installment at Deadline’s The Contenders Emmy panel on Sunday, the two clarified that they have not been approached to do it if it’s happening, yet. However, both Graham and Bledel are not sure about developing a second season in fruition either.
“In terms of an actor, I would never tire of that. Now it has become, ‘What can we do that is satisfying, and worth continuing, and gratifying to the people who care so much about it.’ I don’t know if there is a need to do more. I would never want it to feel like we overstayed our welcome. … There’s probably a way to keep these characters alive but I don’t know if that’s the best thing for them,” Graham said.
Bledel chimed in and said, “I think for me it comes down to what story we’re telling. I’m just interested in telling a story that is dynamic and that I sort of relate to and can hook into. And if that happens … I don’t know. It’s such an unknown, I don’t think we anticipated that this would happen.”
Moreover, Bledel said the “famous four words” was a typical signature for Sherman-Palladino, and although it was “a hard thing” for her to “digest,” she realized that it was quintessential to the show. She added, “She knew what reaction she was going to get out of the audience. She’s delighted by throwing everyone a curveball. I knew that’s what she wanted and [so] I just trusted her.”
