‘Game of Thrones’ season 7 may feature Braavos heavily. It was hinted that Jon Snow and Queen Daenerys may not be the only threats to Cersei’s throne as an important character hailing from Braavos returns to the series.
English actor, comedian, and screenwriter Mark Gatiss hinted that his character Tycho Nestoris may have a very important role in the much-anticipated seventh season of HBO’s fantasy-drama series based on George R. R. Martin’s bestselling series of novels ‘A Song of Fire and Ice.’
Tycho Nestoris is a recurring character in season 4 and 5, and was first seen in the episode “The Laws of Gods and Men.” He was introduced as a representative of the Iron Bank of Braavos, the richest and most powerful of the free cities beyond Westeros.
Gatiss confirmed Tycho Nestoris’ return on the series during a recent press conference at the BFI & Radio Times Festival in London. According to Express, Gatiss said, ““Yes, I did it in Belfast last year. I can’t tell you anything more obviously, mostly because I don’t know anything… It was lovely. What I love about it is that I don’t have any stake in it.”
The 50-year old actor added: “I honestly don’t know the ins and outs. People ask me this, that and the other, I haven’t got a clue. I’ve done four episodes now and there’s two more they think. It’s a huge saga and I don’t know and I rather like that. But I’ve had a lovely time… The last scene I’m in with - I probably can’t say because it would be a spoiler, wouldn’t it?”
He then revealed that he pitched an idea to showrunners Daniel Weiss and David Benioff two years ago in Croatia about having his character survive until the end of the series. He said, “I made a pitch to be the last one alive because if anyone survives, it’s the banker, isn’t it? They smiled at me and then plotted my doom.”
Gatiss’ return also fueled rumors that season 7 may feature more of Braavos and its bank compared to previous seasons. According to Inverse, the Braavos’ Iron Bank controls the money of the Known World. Unfortunately, the Lannister family has incurred massive debt in their rise to the top and this is most definitely not in Cersei’s favor.
It was speculated that the wealthy Iron Bank may forge an alliance with the newly returned Queen Daenerys in her fight to take back the Iron Throne of the Seven Kingdoms. It seems that Cersei may have a bigger threat in her midst, in addition to Daenerys and Jon Snow breathing down her back. Without the funds needed for an army and powerful arsenal, Cersei’s doom may already be set in stone.
It was also previously rumored that the Mother of Dragons may accept Jon Snow’s offer of working together to defeat Cersei as well as the impending White Walker attack.
‘Game of Thrones’ season 7 is scheduled to return on HBO on July 16, 2017. It will consists of only seven episodes and will consist largely of original content not found in Martins’ books.
