After weeks of silence, showrunners of the Freeform hit series “Shadowhunters” found its Sebastian. “Game of Thrones” actor Will Tudor will play one of the most twisted creations from Cassandra Clare’s “Mortal Instruments” series. He is due to appear on the second half of Season 2, due this year.
Todd Slavkin gushed to TVLine how Tudor was “amazing” and “mind-blowing” for the role. Fellow showrunner Darren Swimmer felt the same way, noting the actor’s “vulnerability” is “captivating.”
Tudor, who apparently taped his own audition, has his British roots to thank for, considering the fact that the character he will be playing came from the Paris Institute in Clare’s novel series.
Earlier, executive producer Matt Hastings said they were very specific with Sebastian’s casting, and would require an actor who would fulfill their specifics. He clarified, “We need someone who can be compassionate, and who may seem like a decent person on the surface. But anybody that’s been tortured that much in the bowels of hell by a demon… man, they did terrible things to him. They tore his skin off, layer by layer. That kind of dramatic resonance never goes away from a person, no matter how you shellac it.”
As for Sebastian’s introduction in the series, many are curious how Sebastian would fit in the show, and whether the showrunners would do a twist they same way they did with Jocelyn Fray.
In the books, Sebastian’s antics against Jace and Clary brought him to his death, resurrection, and then with finality, death in his mother’s arms. Sebastian is Jocelyn’s first-born with Valentine and a brother to Clary.
Swimmer was evasive about his answer and simply said, “We want to keep the details of how Sebastian emerges on the show … a little bit close to the vest. He’s definitely going to be a charming character with a dark side.”
