“GTA 6” remains one of the most anticipated installments in the gaming market today as its predecessor proved to be quite the hit for players around the world. Indeed, “GTA 5” has reportedly brought in over $6 billion in revenue for Rockstar Games and is still generating profit five years after its release, Billionaire365 reported.
As such, the studio is still allocating resources in order to create more content for “GTA 5” to keep its player base interested. And this is one of the reasons why “GTA 6” isn’t coming out soon. Another reason is the fact that “Red Dead Redemption 2” is slated for release this Oct. 26.
Rockstar Games doesn’t want their products to compete against each other by releasing them at relatively proximal times. It goes without saying that gamers only have so much time on their hands, even for those who consider themselves hardcore players. And with “Red Dead Redemption 2” and “GTA 6” having such vast maps to explore, gamers will have no choice but choose one over the other.
What’s more, there are other triple-A franchises out there that are equally beloved by the gaming community. “Spider-Man,” “Shadow of the Tomb Raider,” and “Darksiders III” are just some of the games that are receiving heavy interest from players. So it makes much sense for Rockstar Games to push “GTA 6” to a later date in order to lessen the competition with “Red Dead Redemption 2.”
So when exactly is “GTA 6” coming out? Nothing has been confirmed by the gaming studio just yet but it’s heavily speculated that it will drop sometime between 2020 and 2022. And with Rockstar Games having a reputation for taking their time in developing their products, this might very well be the case.
There’s also the fact that a new generation of consoles is being created by companies to compete with the specs of the PC. For instance, Sony recently confirmed that they’re currently developing the PlayStation 5, which is slated for release in 2021 at the soonest. This announcement definitely has some impact on the development of “GTA 6” since RockStar Games will undoubtedly want their product to run smoothly in this upcoming system.
Although “GTA 6” will not be dropping anytime soon, it seems that the gaming studio is already making progress regarding the next installment of this franchise. As rumors would have it, “GTA 6” is being developed by Rockstar Games under the codename “Project Americas.”
The reason behind the moniker is that players can allegedly travel from the U.S. to South America in order to complete certain missions in “GTA 6.” While no confirmation has been made by the company, rumors are saying that the game will take some inspiration from shows like “Narcos” and movies like “Made in America.” This makes sense since both these works involve the drug trade in their plotlines, which is also something that’s been a staple for the “GTA” franchise since day one.
