Now that “Red Dead Redemption 2” has hit the shelves, the attention has finally shifted back to “GTA 6.” But according to recent reports, the sixth main installment in the popular "Grand Theft Auto" franchise isn't expected to come out anytime soon.
A few days ago, Reddit user joebucksucks420 shared some interesting tidbit about Rockstar Games’ plans in the next few years, and it seems “GTA 6” is being pushed back because the studio wants to work on a remastered version of “Red Dead Redemption 2” for next-gen consoles. And once that is done, gamers still have to wait for Rockstar to complete “Bully 2.”
According to the Redditor, there is a chance “GTA 6” may come out at the end of 2023, but a 2024 release is more likely. Well, it is going to be a long wait for fans of the "Grand Theft Auto" franchise if this rumor is true.
Meanwhile, Rockstar co-founder Dan Houser has recently admitted that he is glad that “GTA 6” isn’t coming out in today’s political climate. The franchise has a long history of satirizing political issues in the U.S., but this time it seems they want to avoid any kind of backlash this will likely cause.
“It’s really unclear what we would even do with it, let alone how upset people would get with whatever we did,” Houser said in an interview with GQ last week. "Both intense liberal progression and intense conservatism are both very militant, and very angry. It is scary but it’s also strange, and yet both of them seem occasionally to veer towards the absurd. It’s hard to satirise for those reasons. Some of the stuff you see is straightforwardly beyond satire. It would be out of date within two minutes, everything is changing so fast.”
Nevertheless, the franchise has remained popular and some will say that it actually thrives on controversy. “GTA 6” won’t be any different once it does come out.
