Disney is expected to ramp up the marketing campaign for “Frozen 2” in the coming months as the sequel’s release date inches closer. Right now, nobody knows what the plotline of the second installment is, so fans have turned to speculation yet again. And one of the most talked about aspect of the previous film is how exactly did Elsa (Idina Menzel) get her powers.
A new theory has recently emerged claiming that Elsa inherited her powers from a relative that was plagued or gifted with the same abilities. According to Screen Rant, the royal bloodline may be responsible for Elsa’s gift/curse as has been seen in “Once Upon A Time” season 4.
During the fantasy series’ run, it’s been revealed that Elsa has an aunt called the Snow Queen (Elizabeth Mitchell) who has the same ice powers. But due to her accidentally killing her sister Helga (Sally Pressman), she was trapped in a magical urn to prevent her from causing any more harm. “Frozen 2” could follow a similar storyline since ABC – the network handling “Once Upon a Time” – is also owned by Disney.
It would be safe to assume that the showrunners needed permission from the company to use the storyline of the first film, while also remaining true to its original source. Indeed, the events that took place in the fantasy drama lines up well with the story that unfolded in the first animated film. With the franchise being one of Disney’s most lucrative work, the company is careful to add any more backstory lest they make everything more complicated. And a complicated storyline usually results in plot holes. Of course, this is merely speculation on what will happen in “Frozen 2.”
There have been a lot of theories and leaks going around the web regarding the sequel, ranging from a Russian calendar to the dark theme that’s supposed to be included in the upcoming film. Whatever plans Disney has for “Frozen 2,” it’s undoubtedly big. As for the sequel’s release date, it’s been scheduled to drop on Nov. 22.
