Ford will unveil its latest electric vehicle, the Capri, this Wednesday, bringing back a legendary name in a modern EV form.
Electrek reports that this week, Ford will unveil its newest electric vehicle. According to Ford's teaser, "the legend is back," the new electric vehicle will make its official premiere soon.
The new electric vehicle will be unveiled on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, according to Ford. This new electric vehicle will be the second model from Ford to use Volkswagen's MEB platform; the first was the electric Explorer.
Capri Set to Revive Sales
At last month's production line event at Ford's new Cologne EV facility in Germany, the first electric Explorer was released. With the goal of reviving sales in the area, it was the initial agreement of a 2020 partnership with VW to utilize its platform.
This "sports crossover" is rumored to be named Capri. In its first two years on the market, the Ford Capri sold more than 400 thousand units.
The Capri, a coupe-style electric SUV that has been out of production for 38 years, is making a triumphant return. Multiple hints about the upcoming model have been dropped by Ford.
Ford to Unveil Capri EV on July 10
Ford announced the new electric vehicle's unveiling on Wednesday in a recent social media post, writing, "The legend is back."
In this video, a guy tries to connect a cha
rger to the gasoline cap of a Capri 2.8 Injection. A security camera-style view of the new electric vehicle's rear window shows the words "The legend is back" with the vehicle's release date.
While it departs, the sentence is echoed in the parking spot. An additional electric vehicle (EV) based on the MEB platform, the Cupra Tavascan, was seen testing alongside Ford's new EV last year.
Ford's EV Design Language
Ford's next Capri and Explorer electric vehicles will mimic the design language of Volkswagen's ID.4 and ID.5 models. Thanks to its upgraded battery, the electric Explorer can travel up to 374 miles (600 km) on WLTP.
Using a 79 kWh battery and a powertrain system that can support up to 335 hp, the dual-motor Explorer is similar to the VW GTX vehicles.
A cheaper, standard-range Explorer will be available later this year, with a starting price of £45,875 ($58,000) in Europe. An estimated starting price of £39,875 ($50,000) is in place.
