‘Fifty Shades Darker’ recently dropped its first official trailer featuring the return of Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan as Ana and Christian, respectively. It managed to surpass the previous record held by ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ as the most viewed trailer in the first 24 hours since it went live.
According to Cinema Blend, director James Foley’s upcoming second installment in the erotic drama film series based on E.L. James’ books of the same name recently dropped its first official trailer. The sequel’s preview took in 114 million views across various digital platforms such Facebook, Instagram and YouTube in its first 24-hours online.
The trailer, released on September 13, managed to dethrone J.J. Abrams’ ‘Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens’ as the most viewed trailer in 24-hours. ‘Star Wars’ held the record at 112 million views. According to Deadline, North American audiences made up 39.4 million views with the remaining 74.6 million coming from overseas. The trailer received 2.5 million views on the film’s Facebook page alone.
Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan are set to return to the big screens as lead protagonists Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey in the intense follow-up to the 2015 blockbuster hit ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’, directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson. According to Box Office Mojo, Taylor-Johnson’s film earned $571 million worldwide on a production budget of $40 million.
Joining Johnson and Dornan in the new cast are Tyler Hoechlin, Kim Basinger, Hugh Dancy, Eric Johnson, Max Martini, Bella Heathcote, Marcia Gay Harden, Luke Grimes, and Rita Ora. Back-to-back filming for ‘Fifty Shades Darker’ and the third film ‘Fifty Shades Freed’ began on February 2016 in Paris, France and Vancouver, Canada.
‘Fifty Shades Darker’ is an upcoming erotic drama and romance film directed by James Foley with a screenplay adapted for the big screen by E.L. James’ partner Niall Leonard. It is produced by Universal Pictures.
The film is scheduled to be released on February 20, 2017.
