‘Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find them 2’ is revealed to take the series’ storytelling to a “new direction” as it builds Warner Bros.’ ‘Harry Potter’ universe further. Author and screenwriter J. K. Rowling will introduce new characters into the franchise.
According to Collider, Warner Bros. intended to create a trilogy of films based on Rowling’s ‘Harry Potter’ spin-off book of the same name. It was previously announced that Rowling had already penned the screenplay for the second film in the series even before the first will bow in theaters on November 18, 2016.
Director David Yates revealed new details regarding the second film’s story arc. He said, “We’ve seen the script for Part 2, for the second movie, which takes the story in a whole new direction – as you should, you don’t want to repeat yourself.”
Yates added, “The second movie introduces new characters as she builds this part of the Harry Potter universe further. It’s a very interesting development from where we start out. The work is pouring out of her.”
The English filmmaker gained mainstream attention after climbing aboard the ‘Harry Potter’ cinematic franchise to direct the last four films namely 2007’s ‘Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix’, 2009’s ‘Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince’, and the final two-part installment of ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows’ that premiered on 2010 and 2011.
He returned to helm ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’, the first in an upcoming trilogy of films set 70 years before the events of the original ‘Harry Potter’ films. The new spin-off series will feature young Newt Scamander, a famed magizoologist and textbook author portrayed by multi-award winning actor Eddie Redmayne.
According to MovieWeb, the film will open in New York in the year 1920. Newt had just traveled around the world for his research on magical creatures and is making a stopover in the city but a series of unfortunate challenges ensues. Redmayne is joined by Katherine Waterston, Ezra Miller, Alison Sudol, Dan Fogler, Colin Farrell, Jon Voight, and Gemma Chan in the new cast.
‘Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them 2’ is an upcoming adventure and fantasy film intended as the sequel to the 2016 film of the same name.
It is part of Warner Bros. new trilogy of films expanding the ‘Harry Potter’ universe further. The original films that starred Daniel Radcliffe as Harry, Emma Watson as Hermione and Rupert Grint as Ron became the second highest-grossing film series in the history of cinema after earning a collective $7.73 billion worldwide.
