The FIFA World Cup 2018 is finally over and France takes home the victory trophy. Held in Russia, there were quite a few concerns with regards to how the results of the event would be handled. However, the French team proved to be the best in the field when it scored a 4-2 victory against the Croatians. Even now, celebrations still continue all throughout the country.
For a step-by-step chronicle of the exciting events during the last match of the FIFA World Cup 2018, The Guardian did an incredible job of doing a live blog of the occasion. It detailed everything from the results of the match to the subsequent events that followed, which also included the celebrations in Croatia. It seems coming in second place isn’t enough to dampen their spirits and they still cheered their team on.
However, it’s the celebrations in France and of the French team that really take the cake. In FIFA’s own coverage of the affair, the sports body noted how this is the second time that the country won the World Cup. The first was in 1998, when France was the host of the event. For the FIFA World Cup 2018, the new generation of French players proved their grit in the field.
Aside from the fact that France won the cup, the FIFA World Cup 2018 also saw some other historic moments. For example, Kylian Mbappe, 19, was only the second teenaged player to have scored in a FIFA World Cup Final. The first was Edson Arantes do Nascimento or “Pele” himself when he scored all the way back in 1958. He was 17 years old at the time.
There’s no doubt, at this point, that the FIFA World Cup 2018 will go down in history as one of the most exciting that the event has ever been. The French football team has much to be proud of.
