Epic Games, LEGO Launch New 'Fortnite' Game, Eyeing 'Minecraft' Rivalry

LEGO and Epic Games unveil a new 'Fortnite' game, promising a unique, family-friendly gaming experience.

Epic Games unveiled the new Lego-branded "Fortnite" video game on Thursday, Dec. 7. The video game company is said to have created this to rival "Minecraft."

The new "Fortnite" is the same as the original; the only difference is that this is the Lego version of the survival mode game. Epic Games will release new features for the new title next year.

Fortnite x Lego Collaboration

According to Reuters, Epic Games and Lego will add more LEGO-themed games inside "Fortnite" in 2024. Lego Fortnite is the very first play experience to emerge from the partnership between the Danish toymaker and American game publisher.

They aim to create more games that children and families will love. The new "LEGO Fortnite" is rated E10+ by the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB). All the experiences in Fortnite use Epic Games' parental controls and safety features; thus, parents are assured of a safer gaming environment for children.

The LEGO Fortnite is playable on various consoles and platforms such as PlayStation, Xbox, PC, Nintendo Switch, and cloud-based gaming streaming services.

New Minecraft Competitor

Epic Game's Lego-themed "Fortnite" was launched via a high-profile team-up with LEGO. BBC News reported that they made the game while drawing inspiration from "Minecraft," a block-building and crafting game similar to how Lego blocks are played to build something.

With that said, it appears that "LEGO Fortnite" will be the next biggest rival of "Minecraft." The game's first edition features a similar crafting survival mode called the "Fortnite: Save the World."

"LEGO Fortnite offers players a new way to express themselves through worldbuilding and is an important step forward in the evolution of the Fortnite ecosystem," Epic Games' founder and chief executive officer, Tim Sweeney, said in a press release. "We look forward to continuing to partner with The LEGO Group to build immersive digital play spaces that are fun for kids and all types of players."
