'Emerald City' Season 1, Episode 3 Spoilers: "Mistress - New - Mistress" – Wizard Commands Kill Order for Dorothy, Worried as Witches Gain Power

‘Emerald City’ season 1’s episode 3, titled "Mistress - New – Mistress," will find the Wizard commanding a kill order for Dorothy. He finds himself losing control as the witches gain more power.

The synopsis for “Mistress – New – Mistress” posted on TV Guide reads, “The Wizard (Vincent D’Onofrio) sends guards to kill Dorothy (Adria Arjona). Meanwhile, the witches' power intensifies as the Wizard loses control; and Tip (Jordan Loughran) and Jack (Gerran Howell) seek a cure in the City of Ev.”

The promo for episode 3 opens with The Witch of the West (Ana Ularu) intimidating Dorothy into admitting the truth about killing her sister, The Witch of the East (Florence Kasumba). It seems that the witches are becoming more powerful than ever prompting an unsettled Wizard to proclaim, “These witches must be extinguished!”

Dorothy also looks to be gaining powers of her own. By the end of the promo, The Witch of the West asks her, “So, are you a good witch? Or a bad witch?”

The first two episodes introduced Arjona as the main protagonist Dorothy, a young Kansas nurse swept into the magical world by means of a tornado. According to the recap of episodes 1 and 2 posted on TV Line, Dorothy accidentally kills The Witch of the East and is taken to Ojo, the leader of the Tribal Freelands, for judgment. Ojo believed Dorothy to be a witch herself since only a witch can kill another and is then declared for exile.

She meets the amnesiac Lucas along the way and they find out that The Witch of the East has not been killed after all when she traps them in the Prison of the Abject. However, Dorothy manages to kill her off truly when she tricks the witch to shooting herself in the head.

Dorothy then meets Tip, a “boy” held prisoner by a self-professed healer named Mombi (Fiona Shaw). She helps Tip escape with Jack after Lucas kills off Mombi. Tip then learns that he is really a girl.

Meanwhile, the Wizard meets with East’s sisters West and North after fearing the return of the The Beast Forever. They plot East’s funeral and the Wizard sends out his guards to find East’s killer.

In the incoming episode, Dorothy and Lucas (Oliver Jackson-Cohen) will find out that the Wizard has ordered his guards to go after her and kill her. Meanwhile in Emerald City, the Wizard is desperately asking his council for advice when he begins to lose control while the witches gain more power.

Tip and Jack will embark on a journey to Ev in order to find a cure after being presented a life-changing revelation.

 ‘Emerald City’ season 1’s episode 3, titled "Mistress - New – Mistress," is scheduled to air on NBC on January 13, 2017. It was directed by Tarsem Singh. It will be followed by episode 4, titled "Science and Magic," scheduled for January 20.
