There is a long list of AAA games that are in the pipeline that might not be released in the next few years, and “Dragon Age 4” is one of them. While it is still unknown when the next game will be released, BioWare said in the latest update that it is right in the middle of producing “Dragon Age 4.”
BioWare general manager Gary McKay released the latest update on the studio’s ongoing projects, including “Dragon Age 4,” earlier this week. It was confirmed in the same post that the game’s executive producer Christian Dailey is leaving the company. But both McKay and Dailey assured fans that the project was in good hands.
In the same update, McKay gave fans an overview of the basic stages of game development. The BioWare general manager said it starts with the “concept and pre-production phases,” where the “blueprint” of a game is decided. In the case of “Dragon Age 4,” McKay said its blueprint was completed in 2021, and the upcoming game is “right in the middle of production.”
“We’re now focused on building out our vision: creating amazing environments, deep characters, strong gameplay, impactful writing, emotional cinematics – and much more,” McKay said about the current status of “Dragon Age 4.” “The blueprint for the game is well understood, and the team is focused.”
Unfortunately, the post did not include specific details about the “Dragon Age 4” gameplay and plot, let alone a release date. But, moving forward, BioWare promised to release more information about the game. McKay noted that future updates will come “in the form of blogs and social content,” seemingly ruling out the release of new video teasers anytime soon.
While many have been calling the game “Dragon Age 4,” BioWare has yet to announce its official title.
The rumored original plan for the game was for it to heavily feature multiplayer elements that would pave the way for monetization opportunities. But Bloomberg reported a year ago that EA allowed BioWare to make the game into an entirely single-player experience following the lackluster performances of “Anthem” and “Mass Effect Andromeda.”
